First is the season. Technically, there is no off season in Las Vegas but the summer months in Las Vegas aren’t really as lively as it is. Just be sure to put enough sun block so that you can tackle the heat of the sun. Popular events and holidays in the country such as the Final Four or the Super Bowl automatically pumps up the prices of hotel rooms.

The biggest budget eater in any vacation is the accommodation and Las Vegas is no exception. Don’t insist in staying in the strip. The strip is very expensive on almost anything. A little off the strip is not too bad and there will always be a shuttle service that will take you to the famous spots in Las Vegas. The economy of saving money in Las Vegas also depends on your purpose of going there. If you’re there for a vacation or to gamble and watch great shows, the strip might be able to save you money in transportation. On the other hand, those who are in Vegas for a business meeting, conference or any business related travel, it’s always better to stay away from the busy part of the strip and have a nice quite hotel a few miles from it.

Speaking of transportation; think twice in getting a car rental for your Las Vegas vacation. Sure rental prices looks really tempting but think of the gas prices today. An alternative is the public transportation called CAT or Citizens Area Transport. These are 300 safe buses that move in and out of the strip and in the general area of Las Vegas. Most of routes, especially in the strip area operate 24 hours a day. If you still go for a car while in Vegas, grab the opportunity of free parking in the strip. Big casinos offer this perk for everyone to attract more patrons.

If you’re interested in going to the casinos, the general rule for savings is to put aside a budget for that before you enter the casino. Even people who are not compulsive of their money will find themselves in financial trouble if they don’t set aside budget for gambling.

Don’t think that Las Vegas is all about gambling and shows. Just a few miles from the strip is the Hoover Dam. If you are willing to go a few miles further you will end up in the Grand Canyon which offers marvelous sights of nature. Major hotels in Vegas offer tours and shuttle service to these nature sights.

You can also slash off a good amount of money in your airline tickets if you’re flying in to Las Vegas. Red-eye flights are common in Las Vegas and they are usually cheaper. The challenge here is to make sure your room is still available since most hotels in Las Vegas cancels the reservation if you fail to check-in on time. Flying out in Vegas is also cheaper when you go for a red-eye flight. The good thing about Vegas is that the nightlife is the most active there and the airport seems to catch on the vibe. Just be sure to come to the airport at least two hours before your flight as the lines, in any time of the year, could be very long and the wait is frustrating.
