The Caribbean is one of the best places in the world for a vacation. The waters, hotels and the general beauty of the Caribbean can leave anyone breathless. For that reason, millions of tourists visit the Caribbean every year.

But the Caribbean is not an easy place to visit if you are on a tight budget. There are some pitfalls that you need to remember in order to have a safe as well as inexpensive time in the Caribbean.

The following are things you need to avoid while planning and during your Caribbean vacation.

1. The Hurricane Months - The second half of the year in the Caribbean can be a bit difficult for tourists. Hurricanes and powerful storms can easily wreck havoc in some places in the Caribbean. They could be affordable but you are placing your life in danger by agreeing to fly to the islands on these dates.

2. First Class Airfare - The difference between first class and business class is very small but the rates are very high. If you want to have a comfortable journey to the Caribbean, opt for a business class reservation. It is just a few hours in the air so it’s better to get a relatively better seat than the most expensive.

3. Reservations with no airport pick-up - It does not matter if you know the Caribbean like the back of your hand. It is still better to have reservations with airport pick-up since this will allow you to get to the hotel faster.

4. Bringing really expensive things - Jewelries, expensive mobile phones and other valuables should be left at home. A camera and a pre-paid mobile phone should be more than enough to get you in contact with your friends and family while having enough pictures as memory.

5. Big bags with many pockets - This is an inconvenience while entering and leaving the country. Your bag will be thoroughly inspected and every pocket will be searched. Avoid the suspicion by brining a backpack that can be easily opened and searched. Remember to avoid bringing items not allowed in the aircraft.

6. Providing too much information to strangers - Never divulge where you are staying, how long you are staying and who you are meeting. This is also the same in other places aside from the Caribbean. They might hatch a plan that can place your items or your life in danger.

7. Leaving your passport in your room - Your passport is your ticket in and out of the Caribbean. Never leave it on top of your bed or anywhere that can be easily searched. Leave the passport in the front desk or in the assigned locker.

8. Agreeing to unfamiliar extra activities - If you are interested in scuba diving, snorkeling, island hopping or any other activities, it is best to transact with the hotel so that they can monitor your safety. Activities offered by strangers are not only expensive but could be a scam.

9. Getting too intoxicated - Always control your drinking when you are outside the country or at least your room. Always think of the consequences of doing things you are not aware of. You might end up in jail or anywhere you are not familiar because you did things while you were intoxicated.

10. Staying up too late - Make it a rule to go to your room at midnight. The nightlife in the Caribbean is great but the Caribbean is a lot better enjoyed during the day. Night clubs is a good way to have fun but there are too many shady persons moving around looking for opportunities to your disadvantage.
