Recession will always be stressful if your concentration is only on making money. Everyone needs to rest from time to time or else the energy spent while trying to earn even during the difficult economy would be depleted. Instead of earning more, you earn less since you don’t have the energy left to work. You need to rest a little bit to regain what you have lost at work.

Some opted to forgo going on a vacation because of the perceived expenses. There are actually ways on how you can go on a vacation without having to sacrifice your monthly budget.

1. Go Local – you don’t have to travel thousands or hundreds of miles just to get a good vacation. In almost every major city, there is a hotel or two where you and your family could stay for two nights. You save on transportation and your familiarity with the area ensures that you get the best rate possible.

2. See unique destinations – the rule of demand and supply will always work in tourism. Seek areas that are not the favorite of tourists but would still provide enough entertainment for the family. You could save as much as 50% because of the lesser demand of the destination.

3. After peak season only – visiting a resort during the summer season is very expensive. Even before the peak season could cost you since they are improving everything which require funds. Visit destinations after their peak season so that you can avoid the crowd and the expenses.

4. Flexibility is the key – the only way to enjoy a good vacation during off-peak season is to be very flexible. Do not insist on your preferred travel dates as they will only be expensive. Negotiate on the dates with the best price to enjoy a great deal.

5. Smart flight selection – if you are required to travel by air, choose red-eye (midnight) flights or midweek flights so that you’ll have the cheapest flight possible. These flights are very easy to obtain since no one is really flying during those times.

6. Use a car – on the other hand, driving is a lot more affordable compared to cheap, red-eye flights. You don’t have to worry in getting lost because of the GPS and online resources that you can use. Be sure to tune up your car for maximum performance and avoid additional spending on repairs.

7. Go camping – a night or two in the woods is an unforgettable experience. This is one of the best activities the family could do. You can rent an RV for the whole family to enjoy. Choose a local camping ground so that you don’t have to spend much on gas and rent.

8. Plan in advance – a good and affordable vacation is a planned vacation. Reserve your rooms, flights and other services in advance so that you can enjoy an “early bird” rate. After booking, monitor the rate from time to time to ask for further discounts if those rates go down.

9. Sticking to plan – set a budget for your vacation and never go overboard. When you are traveling, there is a big temptation to overspend but remember that you are in a tight budget. Talk to your friends and family on the budget that you have established.

10. Research – your number one savings tool is knowledge. Go online and find the best rates on the services and destinations you are considering. You could even ask online on where to find the best rates in a city you are not familiar. Even in recession, there is a vibrant community online that offers advice on how to save as much as possible during your quick vacation.
