Shopping TipsTips to Stop Buying Stuff
Everyday, more and more people are finding it very hard to stop spending money. We can always say to ourselves that we won’t buy anything anymore but as soon we say that we find ourselves buying another thing out of whim. That kind of behavior of course is impulsive buying and it could ruin your life as you continue to buy and buy even though you don’t have the resources. Slowly, your debt increases and if you don’t put a stop to it, you’ll end up with absolutely nothing. Like many other problems, preventing yourself from buying stuff online or offline is just a matter of discipline. But controlling ourselves maybe a lot harder than you think; I’m sure you have already psyched-up yourself not to buy anything only to fail after a day or two. Drastic actions have to be done and if you can’t find help in getting things done, here are some DIY practices to help you stop spending your hard earned money:
Cash, Cash, Cash – nothing beats the old way of transaction. Not only you can curb your spending, it lets you think about your spending sprees. With credit cards, you don’t see your money physically spent but with cash, your hard earned income is slowly removed which surely will make you think twice of spending again.
Open a time deposit account – if you have trouble keeping your money, let someone else do it. Time deposit accounts cannot be cashed out anytime. You can only update them once in 30, 60 or 90 days. The hassle of getting your money outside the allotted time period is so big, you’ll think twice of cashing them out.
Save for something really, really expensive – look for things online that are very expensive and make that as your motivation to save. Of course you have to be a little bit realistic to give you additional motivation. You’ll be saving your money for that one thing and when the time has come, keep it. Usually, people are so psyched up in saving for something that when they have the actual cash, they find it hard to part with it. Consider that your savings for the future.
Look around – an impulsive buyer will literally buy anything even if they don’t see any use of it. Look around your house and evaluate the things that you bought. How many times have you actually used them? You’ll be surprised that more than half of the things lying around your house have only been used once or twice and was left to collect dust in one side of your home. Clean your house with those clutters by holding a garage sale or give them to your friends or charity. You will be surprised how good you’ll feel if you see all those spaces in your house. It will also make you think how excessive you are with your money.
Buy only what you need – eventually you still have to buy something. But don’t let that need to buy be a trigger in buying unnecessary stuff. You have to ask yourself all the time if you need that thing or service. You can’t run away with need but a want should always be checked. Stay away from the wants and concentrate on what you need.
You may hire a financial planner to help you with your budgeting but that could be another spending that will never have any result. All you need is discipline and abovementioned DIY practices. These practices literally prevents you from spending too much because they take away your money and place is somewhere that couldn’t be easily accessed.
