Smart Shoppers Buy Generic

Cutting costs in your grocery shopping doesn’t always mean that you have to buy less. There are a lot of products that are considerably cheaper. Other branded products may make you feel better but the benefits offered by generic and branded products are still the same. Basically, your money is just paying for the brand. Since they commercialize their product too much through endorsements and different media commercials, they are forced to pass on that spending to their consumers.

Most supermarkets today sell products with their own name. They don’t spend anything on commercials and rely on the smart shoppers’ discretion.

Do not be concerned on the quality of the generic products. At first you’ll find yourself uncomfortable in using their products but after sometime, you’ll be able to appreciate the product because it provides the same effect. It’s all about conditioning yourself and your family to these products. Remember that the product is just the same but only with a different name.

Patience on Bargains

Do not expect that you’ll find bargain products in the first supermarket you visit. There are a lot of supermarkets, large and small to choose from. You could visit one store every week and write down their prices on the things that you are likely to buy. Compare them and go to the supermarket that offers the most savings. If these supermarkets are close to each other, you could even transfer from one place to another so that you’ll get the best in every store.

Contrary to popular belief, bargains are not really placed on areas that could be found by their customers easily. Look around especially on the areas rarely visited by most customers. Some of the best deals are placed on the most obscure areas so be sure to move around the supermarket area to find the best deals.

Sometimes the supermarkets personal purposely place these items on the area that could not be found so that they could by the savings themselves. It’s not a smart way of providing savings to their shoppers but if you are smart as a consumer, you’ll still find that product and get the savings yourself.

Foresight and Opportunity

There are also bargains that are also obvious and will probably be gone in an hour or two in the supermarket. Jump to that opportunity and save money on discounted products. However, not everything in the bargain bin is useful for you. Have a foresight on when you will use the product.

If the bargain bin contains food, think about the next time you’ll need the ingredient or product. Sometimes, the product may be near its expiration date and it will happen even before you use the product. The power of foresight will help you decide if the product in the bargain bin is good for you or not.

Also ensure the quality of the product that you are buying in your bargain bin. Usually the products that are left to be sold at a considerably lower price are products that were not bought because of their lower quality. Carefully check the product so that you’ll have something that you really need and use.
