Starting Small Business

A small business is a good way to earn full time or just another good source of income during the weekends or in your spare time. Some have used their small business to pay the bills and enjoy more things in life. Others have even made their small business as a seed to become millionaires.
But starting a small business is a lot easier said than done. There are too many blunders a starting businessman would encounter when trying to establish their small business.

To help launch your small business, here are some blunders you should avoid:

1. No market research before opening - do not sell or offer anything that will never be needed in your community. Do your homework first and see if there's a demand on the product or service you will offer. If there's a demand, you can be assured of a good start in your business.

2. Resorting to expensive advertising - you can aggressively advertise your business to attract customers. But if you're just starting a small business, you should not resort to TV or radio advertisements unless they are free. Use simple advertising and be aggressive in word of mouth to gain attention without spending too much.

3. Not looking at your competition - do not be oblivious about your business. Take a look at how your competition tries to attract customers. Also notice how they price their products and services so that you'll be competitive in pricing. Information about your online competition should never be ignored as well.

4. Resorting to loan as a start-up fund - it doesn't really matter if you have a brilliant idea to earn from a small business. As much as possible, use your personal savings in your small business. This will help you control spending and if the worst comes, you'll never have any additional liability.

5. Starting without the right tools - if you're trying to start a service-based business, always spend a little bit more on tools. It is not an excuse to use substandard tools in your customers as this will only cause substandard results.

6. No online presence - A website is a must for small businesses. If you have some extra funds, you can start a website with paid web hosting or you can also use free websites to advertise. An online presence is important since it will help you reach out to your customers faster.

7. Immediately aiming for big earnings - small businesses will usually earn small income. Aiming to earn big can hurt your image which means you'll never be able to extend your business presence after working with a few customers in your area.

8. Setting the bar too low - on the other hand, you should never price your products and services too low. You should be able to attract a lot of customers but you will never have earnings. You're still on the losing end even though you stay in the business longer.

9. Starting without legal papers - never think that your small business can start without the right documentation. The local government will surely know about your business and they will charge you with a hefty penalty. Ensuring your business have the right papers can also boost your presence because you can freely offer your services and products.

10. Resorting to franchise - there are individuals who do not want to think about a unique business plan. They resort to franchise since they will have everything they need. But a franchise is very costly for new businessmen since there are additional fees to be paid without any assurance of success.
