Email Marketing Tips

Email is regarded as one of the biggest communication breakthroughs in history. Sending messages anywhere in the world has never been easier because of email. Almost everyone familiar with the internet has an email address since creation of an email address is relatively simple.

Email is also a good way to market your products and/or services. You should be able to present your product in a more personal manner since it will be sent directly to your potential customers' inboxes.

But email marketing is a very delicate marketing technique. There are certain things that you need to keep in mind before you proceed with this form of marketing:

1. Don't resort to spam marketing - there are companies that offer mass email campaign for a very small rate. This can, unfortunately, hurt your business. Unsolicited email will just go to "spam" and will never be read.

2. Ask people to sign up - this is probably the most difficult process of email marketing. But to avoid legal troubles, ask people to sign up for email updates about your company so that you can provide more information on what you can offer.

3. Give a hook - to attract more people to sign up to your email updates, give a small advantage or "hook" so that they will be enticed to sign up. A good example is to offer small discounts for those who sign up as they will receive special discount codes.

4. Be truthful in your email - email marketing is not just sending them what you sell, it's also about communicating to your customers. Inform your customers how thankful you are for their time to read the email and have a short explanation of the specials you have in your business.

5. Invest in list management software - free management software is good for limited email contacts. But if you have more than 100 contacts that need constant updates, a powerful software is imperative. Non-freeware list management applications often have additional tools such as statistics on who actually opened your email.

6. Use HTML only - While JavaScript and Flash codes could add more "identity" to your email, this can only slowdown the load time of email. Your readers might get impatient and just block your emails from their inbox or marking it as spam. HTML is simpler and can still be used for important business purposes.

7. Limit your email - a daily email to subscribers is only annoying especially if you're just selling a product or offering a service. You might get a complaint that you're just clogging their inboxes through daily email. A weekly, bi-monthly or monthly email should be good enough if you have a small business.

8. Avoid long emails - the fact that you don't send too many emails in a monthly basis don't give you the excuse to write very long letters. A 250-word email detailing your offers should be more than enough to let your customer know of your latest products/services.

9. Proofreading - be a professional and send an email that have been properly composed and proofread. Good grammar without any misspelled word is easier to read and understand. This is actually just simple business etiquette, which means this practice should also be observed in other business emails.

10. Add action messages - your email should conclude with a note that encourages your reader to act. Just be sure to make it subtle so that you will not sound too pushy.

A successful email marketing campaign is not just about sending emails. Send professional emails to receive proper business response from your prospective customers.
