In any given day, there will always be a supermarket or an appliance center that will boldly proclaim that that they are having a sale for a limited time. Slogans such as “all things must go!” or “ up to 70% in savings” could be found in different areas of the city and streamers might even be put up in certain places to attract attention. Even radios and televisions will also have their share of advertising what is going on.

As a consumer, you will basically think that you are given a chance of saving a lot of money. So you rush to the location with cash or credit card at hand to avail the savings they offer to their customers. Although this sounds a good way to save money, it is the other way around – companies are using this scheme to attract customers on buying things not on helping you save. The things that you have done on sale might not even be useful for you or your family but you bought them anyway since they are affordable. You have just spent your money on nothing.

Illusion of Need

Companies often encourage their customers to buy from them during a sale because they are offering an opportunity to save which is very important nowadays. They are trying to inform their customers that they need to save right now and the only way to do it is to buy the affordable products from them.

But these affordable products are nothing more than a waste of money. You are being clouded with the fact that you have to save in any way you can so you buy things that will help you someday. Although you can use them after a few months, the trouble of buying these items is just not worth it. You might even end up with a product that is totally destroyed when the time comes for you to use that product.

Illusion of Affordability

Declaring a sale is also another technique by different retailers to attract customers. You may think that they are losing a large amount of money since they are slashing a large percentage from the original price but the truth is the other way. They are in fact, earning a lot more from this declaration of price cuts.

Retailers are still businessmen and they do not want to sell things that will never help them to earn something. They will increase the original price and post a percentage cut from the changed “original price”. Consumers are not really monitoring the previous price so they would naturally think that they are in for a bargain for the said item. But the yare actually buying the product with the original retail price.

Proactive Bargain Hunting

Do not think that the company is offering you a chance of a lifetime – because of the large number of supermarkets and retailers in cities, there will always be someone who is on sale. If you miss their sale, do not worry as this will happen again next year or in the near future. There might even be a supermarket around the corner that is declaring sale on their certain products. You have to dictate what product you need to buy on sale rather than other way around.
