One of the hottest cars today is the hybrid car. Although they are relatively small compared to most cars, they are able to provide just enough space for the whole family for lesser fuel consumption. Because it uses less fuel, there is a greater possibility of saving some money. With controlled use of the car, savings on hybrid cars can be increased. If you are planning to a buy a car right now, there is a great likelihood that you are considering a hybrid compared to regular cars. But before you go out and get one consider these facts first.
. 1. Instead of fuel, hybrid cars will use electricity – Hybrid cars use two sources of energy: electricity and fuel. Because electricity is now used as a source of energy, lesser fuel is required. Fortunately, electricity is still affordable when compared to fuel which means it could provide more mileage at a lesser price.
The challenge for electricity powered hybrid cars is to look for a charging station within the city. Although there is already a large number of charging stations, it is not available in every place you go.
. 2. Power over mileage – Hybrid cars could provide you better mileage because it uses electricity with fuel which basically cuts the use of fuel in half. However, this puts a great dent on the car’s performance. Fuel efficient cars are known to provide the mileage but they cannot be overloaded or else they might not move at all.
A family of five might be able to fit in the car but with additional luggage, it could place great pressure on the car and it may not move at all. Most hybrid cars should be able to handle the weight more than specified but it will require more fuel. In the end, it will never provide the savings that you need because of overweight.
. 3. Not all hybrids are mileage conscious – Do not just go to your car dealer and take the first hybrid car that you see. There are cars that do not concentrate on providing you better mileage but they provide better power. That means your car will be powerful but will still give the same mileage. A car in this category is the Honda Accord Hybrid. This type of car uses hybrid technology to improve the car’s performance but they still use the same amount of fuel.
. 4. Price – Celebrities and politicians use it to make a statement that they want to help save the environment. You may also have the same goal with the celebrities and politicians but you have to prepare the monetary consideration.
You will have to add at least $3000 on top of the price of the regular car. You could even add more than $3000 if you are looking for a better car. The technology for building hybrids today is a lot more expensive. You may be saving money in the long run but a hybrid car may cost you because of the technology.
There are other alternatives to hybrid cars. If you are just looking for a car with better mileage, look for an electric powered car. Just make sure you are near to a charging station all the time because it will require a special equipment to “fill it up”.
Electric cars will never emit smoke and does not even have a sound when operating them. For now, hybrid cars is only useful if you want to tell people that you are now considering a green lifestyle while convincing others to do so. The prices of hybrids are still expensive which makes the hybrid car for an average earner almost impractical.
