Smart SpendingSave Money on Your ISP
Constant online connection has become an important component in most homes. For those who are working at home, a reliable ISP is even more important because it is only through online that they can connect to their business partners, clients and even conduct business. 20 years ago it is unimaginable that someone in other countries could conduct business in US without even spending thousands of dollars in phone bills.
All they need is a reliable internet connection to get them connected to everyone. Families who are separated by hundreds of miles could easily connect through the internet. Not only could they talk to each other but also see each other. All of these things are possible because of the internet.
As internet slowly becoming a need, we might be pressured to get the first ISP (Internet Service Provider) that approaches us. Before you agree to their services first, be sure to know what you need so that you can save money on your ISP. Some of us end up with a very expensive plan that we don’t even need in the first place.
ISP charges their users based on the speed of the internet. The higher the speed, the more you have to pay. If you want to have simple internet connection you can subscribe to a simple dial-up service. Most dial-up rates start at $9.95 per month as a promo rate with up to 56kbps speed. This type of internet connection is slow that it can’t even stream music direct from the internet and if you’re planning to watch videos online, this speed will not do it. If you want to watch videos online and download music faster, you need to have DSL or Digital Subscriber Line. Another fast internet connection is through cable internet service.
DSL or Cable, you also need to know how fast your internet is. For home use, you really don’t need to go beyond 1Mbps of speed to enjoy videos and streaming music. Some families wanted to go as far as 8Mbps so that they could have a very fast internet connection but the price is also eight times higher. If you’re only using the internet for simple research and connecting to family members from other countries, you can have 1Mbps and expect good connection with video streaming of your friends abroad. If you’re operating a small business, you can use this decent speed and save money.
Another trick in saving in your ISP fees is to get a bundle. More and more companies today are offering ISP with cable connection as well as landline. Getting bundles is perfect when you are just moving in to new houses or you just wanted another service in your house. You will only receive one bill and more often than not, the rates are discounted.
There are actually two types of ISP that you can consider, the local ISP and nationally recognized ISP. AOL, Earthlink and Comcast are some of the nationally recognized companies that offer internet connection. On the other hand, there are smaller ISPs in your area. The good side on nationally recognized companies that provide ISP is that their fees are usually lower compared to local ISPs however if something happens to your internet connection, help might come slower compared to ISPs.
The good side about local ISPs is that their service is personalized and help would come in really fast. However, their connection is not that reliable as their infrastructures are not strong compared to nationally recognized companies. Be sure to research first regarding their prices and look for customer reviews so that you will know their customer satisfaction.
