Save Money on Cell Phone Bills

Ten years ago, cell phones were treated as vanity. Today, most of us don’t even want to get out of our homes without these mobile gadgets. Through our cell phones we are always connected and through the advancement of technology, our mobile phones have become our music player, our video player, internet browser and even in editing our office documents. Even when we are thousand of miles away from our office and homes, we can still work and be as productive like our co-workers who stayed in the office.

But this mobility always comes with a price. Our cell phones may have given us the chance to work, listen to music and communicate with our co-workers, friends and family but our monthly bill for our cell phones is almost disturbing. If you are trying to save some money, one of the first bills that you should – and can slash off is your mobile phone bill.

Knowing what you need

Our cell phones used to be a tool for communicating to people that are important to us – and that’s it. A few years ago, our cell phones only has the ability to make a phone call or send a text message. And it should still be that way if you want to save money in your cell phone bill. If you limit your cell phone use to calling and sending text message, you should be able to slash more than 20% or even more since you don’t need to connect to the internet using your cell phone.

But even during the years when cell phones were only used to call and send SMS messages, people still end up paying thousands of dollars every month since they have to call someone even when it is not important. If you really need to connect online, consider a mobile phone that would let you connect online through WiFi. Instead of paying per kilobit transfer through your cell phone company, use wireless connection through different cafes and public areas. There are so many WiFi hotspots today that you can easy connect online without even paying a separate fee for the internet.

Tracking your movements

Before you purchase a cell phone or transfer to another plan, track your mobile phone activity. List down the time and day where you call frequently and how long is your phone call. Like most money saving ideas, the one of the ways of saving money is to know your behavior on your mobile phone. Mobile phone companies have a suited plan for your mobile phone needs.

For example, there are mobile phone plans that give you unlimited night calling while others don’t give the same offer but has offers unlimited calling and texting during weekends. When you known your calling behavior you should be able to select a cell phone plan suited for you. Don’t sign-up for additional mobile phone service such as music downloads or streaming videos. Data plans should be avoided at all time since you can still connect online by using wireless connection.

Pay as you go

If you are not a very mobile person, you don’t really need to have a mobile phone plan just in case you have to go somewhere. There are a lot of prepaid mobile phone plans today where you are not required to sign up for their services. These pay as you go plans could be a little bit expensive by the minute compared to standard plans but you will not be paying monthly fees.

A mobile phone is an important gadget today but that doesn’t mean that you have to spend hundred of dollars every month just to get in touch with your friends and family.
