Recession TipsUnemployment Scenario During Recession
The stats are in for unemployment and it is not good. Companies around the country have terminated more than half million employees for the past few weeks. Because of the massive job cuts, the country is going through the lowest unemployment rate in more than 25 years.

The stats do not even mention the pay cuts that are being implemented by companies around the country as well. That means you will end up in two scenarios: if you are just hired, you will most likely be terminated or experience pay cut.
This scenario is very scary for soon to be graduates and those who are still actively seeking employment. The possibility of getting a job that supports a good lifestyle is getting thinner and thinner. Fresh graduates would also experience more hardships because they do not have additional experience in the industry.
But if there is one thing that you should learn this year, it is hope. As the current administration rode on the words “hope” and “change”, you should have the same optimism in finding a job in this dire economic situation.
Dealing Head On
Success is not served in a silver platter. You have to aggressively run after it consistently. If you want to find a job, you better be prepared in dealing with it no less than eight hours a day. It is nothing less than a full time job and could be even more.
The good thing about dealing with the job market for full eight hours is that you will learn a lot on how to get a job in the soonest time possible. Eight hours could get you to more than two companies if you just know how to deal with it. If you spend at least two weeks hunting for a job, you will know the difference and the impact of a single blunder in your interview and cover letter.
Use Your School
Networking for fresh graduates could be difficult because introducing yourself to important persons will not be usually met with the same enthusiasm. Do not wait to graduate to start networking. Even if you are a fresh graduate, go back to your school and start your networking there. Visit the career services department of your school – not only for available jobs but also in knowing managers and business owners who could be part of your network. Being a fellow alumnus, you will be able to gain contact even without anything to offer to those who are in a higher position.
Government Job
One of the best sources of jobs during recession is the government. Instead of running after jobs in private companies that are dealing with recession and market changes, get a job with the government. You will always find a suitable government job for you no matter what you skill level and experience would be. If you are willing to travel, you can even opt for federal jobs which could take you around the country.
