Surviving Recession through Unconventional Ideas

For consumers the biggest effect of recession is on losing their source of income. As more and more companies are opting to cut down on their workforce, more people are losing their jobs. And the numbers are alarming – the country is going through the highest unemployment rate for more than three decades.

The numbers might even increase as the country is going through more financial trouble. Even though the economic stimulus plan has already been approved, the country has still to feel the effects a few more months before the stimulus plan will take its effect on the economy.

The difficulty for those who have just lost their jobs or their business is based on the fact that getting back on track is very difficult for now. Since companies are losing or terminating employees by hundreds and even thousands, there is a remote possibility that they are hiring employees right now.

Even though there are still companies who are hiring, the numbers of applicants are very overwhelming so the chance of gaining employment is very slim. Most are just resigned on the fact that they just have to wait until recession is over.

But even though there are hundreds of employees vying for a limited number of positions today, this should not discourage you from gaining employment. Most applicants today are clinging on the traditional process of gaining employment – submit a cover letter and/or resume, take an exam and get an interview before the job is offered to you. This process will only work during regular economic conditions. Since there are hundreds of employees are going through the same process, the chances of gaining employment are not good.

What you should do to gain employment during this challenging economic condition is not to go through traditional job process – too many people are doing that right now so your chances of getting noticed is very slim. What you should do is to employ uncanny or out of the box employment process to gain employment as much as possible. Through unique practices, you will be able to get the attention of employers as well as screeners.

Using Your Network

Some say networking is a must in gaining employment nowadays. But it is still considered as a unique practice in gaining employment. Networking is not about what you have been through or what you have studied, networking is all about knowing someone inside the company you want to work with.

But you’ll still be able to use networking even though you do not know anyone in the company. If you don’t know anyone inside, you have to be a lot more aggressive in networking. You have to get in touch with more people if you want to improve significantly in networking. Your current networking will surely know people who could be connected to more people that could assist you in gaining employment.

Another way of gaining employment is to start small and improving significantly. Recession has made companies think twice in hiring permanent employees. But since they still need employees to help them in their business process, they would opt to look for temporary employees.

Instead of forcing yourself to a company who might not hire permanent employees, get inside by being a temp first. There are a good number of temp companies that can help you get some work for now. If you are hired, don’t just be contented in being a temp, work hard so that you can be appreciated by the company you are working for. If they see you as someone valuable, there is a great chance that they will hire you when recession is over.
