Recession TipsSurviving Recession for a Solo Professional
Everywhere you look, you find businesses struggling to stay afloat during recession. Almost every small business in the country is reporting fewer profits during these months and even significant losses.
This reality could also resonate to a solo professional or someone who works as a freelancer.
You could be a writer, a programmer or anyone who can provide a one time service and get paid for it.
The demand for freelancers because of recession gets thinner and thinner. That would mean competition in this industry becomes fierce as everyone is vying for from fewer clients.
The good news about recession is that it will eventually die down and everyone will be back on its feet once this period of economic adjustment is over.
That does not mean your earning ability as a solo professional will temporarily stop as well.
During these tough economic times you need to adjust and adopt so that you can survive. Without adoption and adjustment you will be able to find yourself struggling in the midst of competition because everyone else will get as many clients as they can by making adjustments just to survive recession.
Finding a Niche
Surviving recession is all about finding something different on what you can offer to your clients. A niche could even survive recession since you provide something different to your clients.
As you develop your skills on a niche, you become someone in demand because youprove yourself someone different with efficiency.
One of the biggest struggles for someone who offers a niche is actually not on proving that the idea is right, but on the efficiency of the offer.
Before you start telling everyone that you have something different to offer, make sure that it works. If you are offering a niche service, make sure that you have practiced a lot and maybe “standardized” your service a little bit.
Wants and Needs
During recession, everyone is a little bit more selective on the products and services they want to avail. Instead of buying things and acquiring services based on wants, consumers are now considering what they really need.
That is why some businesses are struggling today since their products are not really that necessary.
This should be among your first realizations when you want to deal with recession effectively.
Although a niche could be a great way to deal and overcome recession, you still have to consider the niche based on what the consumers or at least your clients need.
The services that you offer today could be saturated in the market because of fewer clients and more providers. Slowly evolve your basic services into something new but would still have to follow the basic rule of need.
Expanding Customers
It is also essential for business survival to increase your customers. This is again strongly linked in finding a niche.
When you think about your niche, you develop a certain service that will not only cater to your present clients but also to additional clients.
Although it is true that you really need to take care of your current clients, expanding to more clients during recession is highly recommended.
Since you are earning less today, you need to aggressively expand to reach your earnings before recession.
This will also work to your advantage once the recession is over. You will be back in your old earning ways which could easily increase since you have more customers today. Surviving recession is all about finding the right niche that will become a need. Through the right niche, you will be able to offer something new to your clients while attracting more customers.
