Recession TipsHow to Establish a Team During Recession
One of the many challenges a business would have during recession is employment movements. Since the resources are limited in hiring new members of the company, they would have to deal with the available resources they have to deal.
Instead of hiring more people, everyone will just have to do more. But this movement will be very challenging for the managers as they would force their employees to do more without any extra pay.
Telling your employees do to a lot more without any extra pay will require your employees more than dedication – they need to be convinced that they are really working for the betterment of the company.
Team Revamp
Getting people do more work is not only in telling people to “do this” or “do that.” This is very disheartening and demoralizing to your employees. Remember that you are trying to keep your employees in the company so that operations will continue despite recession.
If you push people to do other things as soon as someone is terminated, you are getting more people discouraged and even though they do their job, it might not be as efficient.
What you need to do to establish better relationship with your employees without offending them with additional work is to completely revamp your company.
This might be confusing to everyone and it will take time and precious resources, but you have to make sure that you are building a team that will cover everything.
Of course you have to be honest about them about it. Revamping the team means everyone gets to work a little bit harder to make the company float until the recession is over. They will surely understand this situation and by now, they realize that resigning from their current post will never assure them of another job because of the current recession.
Doing Your Own Part
When you are telling everyone to work harder than ever to ensure the company survives recession, make sure that you are also doing your part. One of the biggest mistakes of managers, supervisors and owners is that they just push their workers to do more while they just sit down relax and still enjoy the earnings.
This will greatly discourage your employees from working harder. If there’s anyone who will be working harder to save the business, it should be you. If the company caves, then you will be affected the most.
Your employees can easily find another entry level position when the recession is over. In your end, recession will not be a signal that you can find another managerial job.
So what are the things that you could do? The bigger the company is, the more responsibilities that you can do.
For example, you can assist other managers in doing administrative tasks. If you can, take some extra-work responsibilities to your employees and do the task yourself. This will give your employees more time to concentrate on their work and will be greatly encouraged if they see you working hard.
Planning Ahead
When everyone is settled in their additional task, it is important to stop and evaluate the situation. Although everyone is ok in their additional tasks, it is not an assurance that everyone will be productive in their new tasks. Immediately conduct an evaluation on what they do.
Active monitoring on the new tasks however, should not be an evaluation on who should be terminated. This should be an active monitoring to know who has coped on what they should be doing for the company.
Revamping a business should not be a bad thing even though everyone gets to work harder. As long as you do your part and actively monitor their performance, everyone will be doing fine until the end of recession.
