Most scams on payday loans occur online. This type of transaction is basically the same as your local payday loan businesses but their thrust is more of getting money from you and walking away before you know it. Of course, there are legitimate payday loan businesses online but you still have to be careful because their interest rate will really cost you.
If you really wanted to avoid in being scammed or pay the high interest rate, don’t get a loan in the first place. There are other options besides payday loans. The only possible scenario that you can consider having a payday loan is that you really need the money and you are sure you will have the funds on paying them on time.
Spotting a scam online for payday loan is actually very easy. Most online payday companies will introduce themselves to you through spam or unsolicited emails. There are actually two dangers that come from unsolicited email from payday loan scams. First is the danger of identity theft or phishing and scam through payday loan.
They will introduce their company as someone legitimate and if you are hooked they will ask for an upfront fee for “processing”. Never give them money in the first place because it just doesn’t make any sense. You are actually contacting them so that you can get money so why would you give them in the first place?
Another type of scam that happens through online payday loans is done through electronic funds transfer. EFT goes directly to your savings account and when you open money, people you are working with that process to send you money can also request for an amount. That means payday loans could either send you money through EFT or request money through EFT. If they do the latter, you will end up losing all your savings to scam. Do not agree to EFT but instead, request the money to be sent through Western Union.
WU is a very simple money transfer transaction and your EFT will never be accessed in any way. If they force you to use an EFT, you can look for another company online. When you are really forced to use EFT, be sure to monitor your account. One sure sign that they might request for money is when their promised money doesn’t arrive. If they are late for just a few hours, immediately freeze any EFT transactions.
It is also common sense to check the reputation of the website. Always check their website for security seals for safe and secure transactions. There are logos such as Verisign or Thawte that could assure you that their site is secured. But even if you see these logos, always go with your instinct. If you feel that something is wrong, just walk away and look for another website.
