Teachers Helping Kids with Single Parents

Teachers are considered the second parent of kids since from the time they are old enough to be at school until they are teenagers, they will always be with their teachers. Most of the things they will learn in their growing life will be from their teachers. On the other hand, kids growing up with single parents will never have the same experience like most kids.

Even though it is an accepted fact by the society, growing up with a single adult in your life is never the same since the care that you’ll receive is never the same. That is why the challenge rests on the teachers in developing the kids to be the best that they can.

Kids that have single parents don’t necessarily need the teachers to fill in the gap as the missing parent. That is just too much of a burden and it would need great time and effort on the part of the teacher.

Teachers are not only there for one kid but teachers have to be a “parent” for every kid who is under them. That is why instead of being too devotional for the kids; teachers would have to play the same role to any other kids but with a little twist. Since kids with the single parents don’t have the luxury of providing the care of two parents, teachers will have to provide the gap together with the single parent.

Sounds confusing right? That step however is very easy to follow. Since teachers are practically the second parent but they don’t want to take the whole burden or take over the relationship, they could just let the parents get involved more in school.

There’s a simple logical explanation for this. Since the single parents can’t provide the two-parent guidance to their kids at home, this could be possible in school. Remember that the teacher is already the second parent and another parent to guide the kids would somehow fill in the gap at school.

To do this, teachers should encourage the parents to be more participative on school activities. But teachers should take note that single parents could be very busy most of the time since they have to take care of their kids while paying the bills at the same time. Single parents might never have the chance to be at their kids at the school since they will always have to be busy at something. That is why it is very important to talk to the parents and adjust your schedule for them. This might seem to be unfair to other kids and parents but this is very understandable especially when you’re doing it so that the special kid could feel better.

Kids with single parents needs all the help they could get. As a teacher, you have to work with the single parent so that they could give the kids all the guidance they could get. Adjustment is the key as single parents try as much as they can to provide the best for the kids and teachers should be there to help them achieve that goal.
