Parenting TipsParent's Guide in Dealing with Gifted Children
Most parents dream that their next child would be a gifted one. A gifted child will always show high level of intelligence wherein he or she could easily talk to their parents, increase their skills in a very fast eventually succeeding in a field they chose at a very young age. Almost every parent who would see this success at an early would be very proud.
But the task is a little bit more difficult for parents who have gifted children. If they don’t have the right parenting skills to deal with their children, their kids would end up more confused of their skills.
They will be conscious of what they are able to do but would wonder why the rest of the kids don’t have the same ability and they might think of themselves as a “freak”. Being withdrawn to the society or even being bullied for their skills could easily happen if parents will not deal well with their gifted children.
Above everything else, parents have to know that their kids are...well, just kids. He or she still has the right to have fun, be with their friends and enjoy all the things every kid should have. Letting them grow naturally is one of the best things you can do to your kids. You just have to give extra guidance to your kids especially in assisting them in their studies.
We still have to maintain discipline in the house. No way are they excused from bad behavior as they still have to grow up graciously and acceptable to the community. Be consistent about disciple as gifted children will always reason out so that they could get out of punishment.
With regards to their studies, let your kids choose which field they want to specialize. Most of the time, gifted children will be interested in so many things that they might end up without any skill at all. Encourage your children to have a hobby so that he or she will have a field to choose. Don’t get concerned about their success because as a gifted child, they will certainly have something to offer that would help them succeed.
It is also important to provide your kids with books and other learning materials to know more about the world. It’s great that they learn something in school but you can encourage them to do more by providing education references. This will encourage your kids to be original with their concept so that not only he or she would help in the industry they are interested in, he or she could also offering something new to the world.
But be careful in the way you encourage your kids. Sometimes, there are parents who still think they are encouraging their kids but they are actually pushing or pressuring them to succeed. As we have already indicated let them grow naturally with encouragement to be very creative.
A good way to encourage them is to give them praises to the things they have done. We already know they can do it but as kids, they still need the reassurance especially by their parents that what they are doing is right and praiseworthy.
