Smart SpendingThings You Can Get for Free
I used to believe that if you can get things for free, grab the opportunity. However, the free things in life right now aren’t necessarily the best things as there are strings attached to those that we though are free. For example, we asked for free information online. Sure we got the information we want for a website but two to three weeks later our e-mail was bombarded by spam that I don’t know which one is real or not. Instead of gaining something, we end up losing because of our interest of free things.
The following are free things we found online and in our neighborhood. These also have strings attached to it but they are very tolerable and could even be useful for us.
Learning
If you think MIT is just for the really smart ones, think again. MIT offers free courses online. You can easily download the materials that have to read for free and participate in the classes online. They don’t just limit themselves to odd courses – almost every course in the university is available online. Although you won’t earn any degree, it’s a great way to learn from the best for free.
Visit an Apple store if you’re not familiar with simple techie ideas. Everyday in almost any branch of Apple, a pseudo “learning computer for dummies” is held everyday. Of course they have to push for their products and surprisingly, they don’t do too much sales pitch but instead use their products as an example.
Cultural Activities
Visiting a museum doesn’t have to be very expensive. Bring your kids to your local museum and let them learn about the history or two. You might also discover something really interesting along the way. Of course, you might find yourself cramping with other “free visitors” but the more the merrier.
Gyms
Now this is for the really frugal ones. Most gyms today offer free introductory exercise so that their prospects will know what they are in for. You can easily grab sample training in different gyms in your area. You just have to write their techniques and replicate them in your home. I really don’t see any strings attached to it but maybe you’ll have a very bad reputation in your local gym.
Pets
Thanks God for "www.craigslist.org Craigslist. If you’re looking for a new furry friend without even have to think of payments. Craigslist, is one of the best places to look for pets that are given away from free. The bad thing about this is that it’s usually a hit or miss as some pets may not look or behave as they are listed online. Petfinder.com is also a good alternative.
Free Phone Assistance
Forget about your 411 calls as this could be costly. Call 800-FREE-411 instead. All you need to do is listen to their 20-second advertisement before they can actually connect you to an operator. Besides the advertisement, everything is the same. I personally don’t want to spend 50 cents if I could by pass that with a mere 20 second audio ad.
Free Stuff
We reserved the best for last. Go to startsampling.com, enter your information and select all the things that you wanted for free. A great range of products such as household cleaning items and even books could be sent right to your doorsteps.
If you’re near to one of the "www.kiehls.com Kiehl’s store, go to one of their counter and tell them you want a free sample. If you can’t reach them physically call them at this number: 800-543-4572 so that you can inform them that you’re interested in trying out their products.
