Smart SpendingSeven Money Saving Tips while Raising a Baby
A baby is blessing for the family – but it comes with a very expensive price tag. But that doesn’t have to be the situation when you consider these baby tips:
Don’t believe the hype
Children’s books, books on parenting and branded products that claims to give your baby an advantage over others is not entirely true. All of these are commercial hype which only aims to get money out of you. A branded product is just the same as the store brand types. You don’t even have to look far as store brand products for babies are available all the time in most thrift supermarkets in your area.
Distinguish needs and wants
There are so many baby products our there that claims that it’s an absolute need for your baby. Don’t let them dictate what your baby need. Ultimately, you are the one who will be deciding what the baby needs at a certain stage of his or her life. Distinguishing the needs from the wants is already a principle for any money saving aspects of our life but this is more important for raising a baby. We are often blurred by the reality that something that would look good for your baby is already a need.
Hand me downs and 2nd hand shops
Our babies grow up real fast which is also a fact for other babies. It’s almost impossible in your circle of friends and acquaintances don’t have the baby products that you might need. Do not be afraid or ashamed to receive hand me downs. If you are planning to buy brand new products for your baby, you will find out in a very hard way that in a month or two, your baby will outgrow the clothes that you bought. 2nd hand baby shops are also increasing in number and chances are there is one near your area. It’s also a good place to get the things you need or even want for your baby.
Breastfeed or use store brand products
Breast milk will always be the best for babies. It is the healthiest type of milk a baby could have and it doesn’t cost a thing. If you can’t for some health reasons, don’t go for branded products which are very expensive. As we have already indicated, there is practically no difference in terms of health benefits between the branded and cheaper store brand formula.
Hold a baby shower
This pre-baby technique is already customary and a great way to save money in baby products in the future. You won’t be spending anything while you receive lavish gifts from your friends and relatives. Anything that they gave will eventually be useful in a certain stage of your baby’s life. Just be sure to think of money saving ideas in holding a baby shower.
Be rational
If you saw a very cute baby clothing in a department store, chances are you’ll be buying it by instinct. It’s a maternal instinct that dictates that you get only the best (or the cutest) for babies so that they will look great. When you go to a mall, be rational about your spending by thinking twice and examining carefully the product’s use for your baby.
Be a smart shopper
Diapers, milk formulas and other baby products that you use everyday could easily strain your budget. Be a smart shopper by looking for coupons so that you can slash off a few dollars for your baby’s needs. Aside from buying with a coupon, buy in bulk. You won’t believe how many diapers and milk a baby could consume in a single month. Instead of buying in retail, get more for your money by buying in bulk.
