Saving on Cable TV Subscription

TVs are a big part of our life. Decades ago, we’re just content with a few channels that offer a limited number of shows with unlimited number of reruns. Although the reruns are still here, the number of channels that you can get for additional options has ballooned to more than 200 channels. If you spend 30 minutes in one channel you won’t be able to finish browsing all these channels in one day. This has made possible through our cable subscription. With a set monthly fee, you’ll be able to enjoy hundreds of shows at any given hour. That fee may be a small chunk in your budget but if you think of it in longer terms; you’ll realize that you might have spent thousands of dollars in your cable subscriptions.

But that doesn’t mean we have to immediately cut off our cable viewing to save money. In almost any city in the country, there are more than one cable providers servicing the area. In fact you might have bumped into them through mail or even through telemarketers. To achieve savings in your cable TV bill, it’s time to research as some companies might offer the same package at a lower price. Be sure to read the fine line or the disclaimer (*) that these companies offer to be sure you understand their offer. It’s even better if you call them and ask them straight about their monthly fees. Negligence of the fine print will cost you hundreds of dollars instead of saving money.

When you found the cable provider you like, don’t transfer just yet. Instead, call your current cable provider and inform them about your preferences. Negotiate with the cable provider by informing them that you have found someone who is better with lower rates. Don’t be too threatening and arrogant about this though. You’re professionally negotiating the terms of payment you have with your current provider. This might work for local cable providers. If they don’t bulge, happily inform them that you’ll transfer to a different cable provider.

Aside from transferring to another cable company, a good and easier alternative is to review your preferred channels. Most of the times, you really don’t need to have more than a hundred channels at your viewing pleasure. Compare the channels that you like to subscribe with lesser package as you might find a lesser package with all the channels that you want which was not offered previously. A downgrade will save you at least $20.00 a month.

The best and the easiest way of saving money in cable TV bills are to completely cut them off. If you’re paying $80.00 a month for your cable TV subscription, you’ll be saving $960.00 annually. With the number of local TV stations, it’s not hard to find a good TV show that you’ll like. All you need is a powerful antenna that you have to pay only once. With a good reception and a good number of local TV shows and channels, you won’t even have to think of your cable TV subscription again.

If you’re missing some of your favorite TV shows, don’t just call you cable TV provider for reinstallation. All shows of today could be viewed from other sources. Any show in the country today is available on DVD as well as it can be viewed online. Some of the premiums shows today are even available online without extra fees. You don’t even have to be in front of your TV at the specific time to enjoy some of their shows as DVD and the internet will give you the flexibility and savings you are looking for.
