House HoldMoney Saving - Making Gifts for People
When it's your kid's birthday, do you go with their wishes? Most of us say yes because of course, we do love our kids and we want them to be happy most of the time. We take the kids to the nearest mall and buy things they point to or at least what we can afford. Some of us take the "surprise" highway by going online and ordering something in their behalf for their birthday. And it's not just on a single occasion.
Remember that Christmas is a time for giving - and it's not just the kids that we have to remember: our partner, some of our really good friends and even simple acquaintances by sending them Christmas cards.
Gifts may look really innocent and even good for our social life. However, if you come to think of it, it's one of those unexpected spending that we have to do. Some of us may already have a budget for those but consider this: what would happen if we didn't buy those toys and gadgets for our kids that have cost us hundred of dollars? That money could have been spent on bills or even mortgage. The domino effect of saving a dollar a day is tremendous so the effect would even be better if you expand it to a couple of hundred of dollars.
But we're not saying that you cut off the entire gift giving for Christmas and during birthdays. What we're saying is that there are thousands of options and simple gift ideas that could help you save while keeping your social communication and friendship intact. Some may think it's cheap but don't mind them - these things are really cheap but with enough dedication, you'll see that some things are even better even if you don't spend much on them.
One of the thumbs-up approaches in saving money on gift giving is personalization. Doing something or creating something specifically for someone is perfect gift giving. In a world that's filled with so much generic things, you might want to create something specific for your friends. For example, Christmas is always a time that we send our Christmas greetings to distant relatives. Sure you'll be sending cards to them but instead of buying one, you create one. A good paper coupled with a lot of creativity is a fun activity.
DIY projects are often recommended for a personalized, good looking and most especially affordable gift ideas. If you're good at wood working, why don't you create mini-furniture as gifts for every occasion? When you're good at writing, instead of buying something for that special someone why not make a poem or a simple short story with your special someone as the leading character? Think of your special skill and use them as your gift to your friends and special someone.
Kids are the hardest to please, during theirs birthdays and Christmas you might find yourself lining up for that very expensive action toy they really wanted.
Here's a specific trick that I have found very effective and cost effective - months (I prefer six) before your kid's birthday or Christmas, give them with a piggy bank as a surprise gift. Talk to them about that the special season is coming up and for them to get a special gift; they have to save for it. You can assign chores or help them save by having a piggy bank of your own. Months of saving will finally reap its rewards for the kids. We are not just saving but we're helping them prepare for their future.
All it takes is a little bit of creativity to give that simple yet meaningful gift. And if you can't find one, the Internet is out there - scour it for ideas since they are plenty of them online.
