House HoldMoney Saving Ideas when Moving
Moving is often a very tiring and stressful activity for all members of the family. For parents or those who are in charge with the budget, moving could mean hundreds of dollars of additional spending. Moving from one place to another could easily get expensive because we are often too tired to think and look for cheaper alternatives that we just say yes to anything presented to us by the moving company.
So from the time you decide to move, look for the things that will aid you in moving your things easily without having to spend too much.
Boxes are among the most important materials that you will be using when you move. Brand new boxes are very expensive nowadays and moving companies will try to sell you one for additional earnings. After you have decided to move, contact different shops and supermarkets so that you could purchase 2nd hand boxes. The prices of these boxes are way cheaper compared to brand new ones.
Oftentimes these boxes were only used once so you don’t need to worry about their durability. Another good place to look for boxes is apartments or condos every first weekend of the month – usual day of the month for moving. Nobody really wants to keep big boxes in their rooms and instead of throwing them away; they would earn a couple of dollar if they sell it to you.
Trucks are also important for moving as it could haul all your stuff only once. Compare the moving companies in your area by getting a quote on how much they are going to charge you. They determine it by distance so you can easily get a quote over the phone. Also ask how much they are going to charge you for fuel. There are moving companies offering AAA or AARP membership discounts so be sure to ask to save additional money.
These trucks will also ask if you are willing to pay for furniture and truck insurance. Contact your insurance agent before you say yes since some homeowner’s insurance cover moving insurance. There are also car insurance companies that cover insurance for trucks that are used when moving.
When you are dealing with fragile or easy to break things in your house, don’t use newspapers. Aside from the ink that will affect the general look of your things, they will cost you. Instead of buying newspapers, use your towels, linens, rugs or anything related to those products. It will also save you space while you protect very fragile things in your house when you are moving.
To avoid further panic, stress and frustration, be sure to cut off your services in your old home and install new services in your new house. If possible transfer the service so that you don’t have to think of termination fees and additional installation fees. Also contact all your magazine subscriptions, banks and other services that will be mailing you for information regarding your chance of address.
Once you’ve completed the transfer, the prospect of saving doesn’t end there. Keep the receipts since the expenses that you made when you move could be tax deductible. By law, you should be able to identify the expenses as tax deductible when your move is caused by a job transfer or a new job in another location. If you think you are in this situation, better save the receipts so that you could receive a tax refund because of that deductible.
Moving will be costly if you don’t prepare and be ingenious with things around you. Although it’s very stressful, it’s not necessary that you have to spend hundreds of dollars just to transfer to another area.
