Our monthly bills are the bane in our lives. If we don’t have any bills to pay every month, we could have paid our mortgage fast, buy the things that we want and go on vacation at least twice a year. But the reality is a lot different than that. Every month, we have to separate a good percentage of our monthly earnings to pay our bills. Although we can’t get away from our monthly bills, it doesn’t mean we cannot lower them. Here are 10 simple tips that could help you reduce your monthly bills:

Switch to CFL

CFL stands for compact fluorescent lamp and it’s found almost everywhere. It might be a little bit expensive compared to regular lights but it has been proven that by using CFL, you can cut more than 50% of your electric lighting bills. In just two months, you can recoup your expenses for the CFL.

Switch to LCD

Everyone has computers today but not everyone has switched to LCD. Again, compared to regular CRT (the bulky screens) that we use as our monitor, LCD consumes only 25% of the regular power consumption in CRT. Not to mention LCD monitors looks great in your room and it occupies lesser space.

Water your flowers/lawn in the early morning

Aside from helping your flowers bloom beautifully, watering your flowers in the morning requires less water since the flowers are still cool enough to receive and preserve the small amounts of water for the whole day.

Buy a programmable thermostat

A little upgrade in your home that will save you a lot of money. This timer will switch on a few minutes before you arrive and a few minutes after you leave or at least depending on your settings.

Review your cable/satellite subscription

Special cable stations that require additional monthly fee should be scrapped. Unless your work is related to watching TV, get only the basic channel and discover the regular channels that come with your package. With the number of channels available for basic subscription, you’ll have all day in scheduling your daily TV programming.

Evaluate your phone service

If you’re not really attached to your phone number, it’s time to shop for another provider. Sometimes, there are mobile phone packages that are actually cheaper than the regular phone line. Compare their prices and services to get the most competitive package as your phone provider.

Hang your clothes instead of using the dryer too much

After washing your clothes; hang them in your basement or the open and airy area in your house. After a few hours, some clothes are good enough to wear. If they really need a dryer, it will completely dry up your clothes in less than 15 minutes.

Shop with your neighbor

Time to contact your favorite neighbor and coordinate your shopping time. Buy things that you need in bulk and split them in your house. Since you’re buying in bulk, the price is a lot lesser and you’re eliminating the need to buy too much.

Plug everything off everything

When you leave or when you don’t use the appliance. One of the reasons why we don’t plug them out is that we want to save our settings. But these settings and very little convenience will require you to pay additional money in electric bill every month. Compromise and plug everything off.

Keep small amounts of cash everyday

Save some money not only in reducing the use of your electronic gadgets and shopping but also in keeping small amounts of money when you have the chance. This will also give you additional source of money to pay those bills.
