Family IssuesGovernment Services for Parents and Children
The government is one of the most reliable sources of help for the family, parents and children. The federal and the state government have set up different services to take care of the people that actually pay taxes and fund them. Although the federal government doesn’t often provide direct assistance, they are also there for assistance when extreme disaster comes. A good example is the hurricane Katrina. Some have disputed the actions of the federal government as being too late but help is there nevertheless.
The state on the other hand has different services that could help families in any given day. Each state has different laws and interpretation of services but they are there for helping the family in one way or the other.
The most common service that every state offers is welfare assistance. Unfortunately, there are families whose earnings are not enough to get them their basic needs. Fortunately, the state offers weekly allowance which could be used for their daily expenses. There are states that send check assistance to those who filed for welfare while there are states that offer food stamps instead of cash. Although some will say that it is never enough, welfare service could give temporary relief until a decent job is found.
Another known service for the family is focused on women. In most battery and abuse cases, women are often times on the side of being battered and abuse. The state also offers assistance to these women not only for their health and safety but in legal assistance as well. Foster care for kids of single moms is common in different states. There are also non-government organizations that aid in this matter which ensures that the right parents will be taking care of the kids of single moms or parents who can’t afford to care for another child.
In the family setting, the kids are the ones who receive the most assistance from the government. The reasoning is very simple: kids often do not have the capacity to take care of themselves. These kids have all the right to be educated, cared and access to services that will increase their chances to be better citizens in the future. From the time the child is born, he or she will be taken cared of by the government if the parents want to by giving the child up for foster care.
There are also state that has information dissemination plans so that the parents will be aware of rising conditions in the area. Through different media outlets parents are informed about health and other concerns for their children.
The majority of states also have day care facilities for pre-school children. Since parents will be very busy most of the day working, the government has facilities to temporarily take care of the kids.
Availing of these services is free and will definitely be of great help especially for families who has kids. All you need to do is contact your local government if you want to gain assistance from the government.
